Frequently asked questions

What is a Doula?

A doula is a trained professional who provides emotional, practical and informational support during pregnancy, birth and the early postnatal period.

Unlike midwives or doctors, a doula does not provide medical care. Instead, a doula focuses on helping parents feel calm, informed and supported throughout their experience. My role is to support both the birthing person and their partner, helping you feel confident and empowered in your choices.

What areas do you cover?

I cover Lancashire and some surrounding areas. If you are unsure whether I cover your location, please feel free to get in touch and I’ll be happy to discuss travel arrangements.

When should I book a birth Doula?

Most families book between 20–32 weeks of pregnancy, but you are welcome to get in touch at any stage.

Booking earlier ensures availability and gives us plenty of time to get to know each other during your antenatal visits.

Do you replace my Midwife?

No. Your midwife is responsible for your medical care and safety during pregnancy and birth.

As a doula, I work alongside your midwife or medical team to provide continuous emotional support, comfort techniques and reassurance for you and your partner.

Can my partner still be involved if I have a Doula?

Absolutely. A doula supports both you and your partner.

Many partners find it reassuring to have an experienced person present who can offer guidance, encouragement and practical suggestions. This often helps partners feel more confident and involved during labour and birth.

What happens when I go into labour?

When labour begins, you can contact me at any time. I will stay in touch by phone or message and join you when you feel ready for additional support.

Once I arrive, I will stay with you continuously throughout labour and birth, providing comfort techniques, reassurance and support for both you and your birth partner.

What happens if you are unavailable when I go into labour?

Birth is unpredictable, but I take my on-call commitment very seriously and plan carefully to be available.

In the rare event that I am unable to attend your birth due to illness or another birth, I will arrange for a trusted backup doula to support you.

How do I book?

You can book by getting in touch through the contact form, email or phone.

Once we have spoken and confirmed availability, a booking form and deposit will secure your place in my diary.
